From 11 May 1985 inhabitants of Tarnow can admire the statue of General Joseph Bem, which is located on Walowa Street. The monument was founded thanks to the generosity of the Polish-Hungarian Friendship Society of Tarnow, the town’s residents and many other people not directly connected with Tarnow. The monument was designed by local artists – Bogdan Drwal and Stefan Niedorezo. Bem’s figure, dressed in a Hungarian uniform, was cast in bronze in the works of Roman Sapa in Tarnow, and placed on a granite plinth designed by an architect – Otto Schier and made by Eugeniusz Klak – a stone-mason. The inscription on the plinth says: General Joseph Bem, a Tarnovian, the Polish and Hungarian Hero.
