Wierzchosławice is considered the birthplace of Polish agrarian movement. Wincenty Witos was born there in 1874 and buried after his death in 1945. He was a leader of Agrarian Movement and prime minister of The Second Republic of Poland for 3 terms. Every year at the beginning of November members of Polish Peasants Party organize “Zaduszki witosowe” to keep alive the memory of Witos. It is organized in Wincenty Witos’ Museum, the branch of Tarnów Regional Museum, which comprises his family house from 1814 (Witos was born there) and a farm (consisting of a house, stable, two barns and a cellar) which was built by him between 1905 and 1913. Ethnographic exhibits from peasant’s homesteads in Wierzchosławice, presenting living conditions of the 19th century village, are gathered in the “old house”. The “new house” is equipped with original furniture and authentic documents. The stable was turned into memorial room presenting Witos’ biography. The exhibition of agrarian organizations’ flags is held in the granary. The most valuable exhibit is a 1928 PSL (Polish People’s Party) flag from its Tarnów branch. The authentic barn is equipped with tools that were used by Witos.
