“The Galicianer Shtetl” – Jews of Galicia Remembrance Days. “Ghetto. The final days.”
The Remembrance Days are organized by the Regional Museum in Tarnów and the Committee for Protection of Jewish Heritage in Tarnow.
Liquidation of the ghetto in Tarnów was the final stage of a scrupulous plan of exterminating local Jewish population.
In September 1943, the Germans completed thirteen months long Holocaust putting an end to the Jewish history of Tarnow. Liquidation of the Ghetto remains one of the most tragic and important moments of our history as it had tremendous influence on the citizens, history and even topography of the city of Tarnów.
The single greatest goal of this year’s edition of “The Galicianer Shtetl” is to recall the most tragic events of September 1943. The Germans reported completing their inhuman plan pointing that the city was “judenrein” – “clean of Jews”.
