Tarnów – a hidden gem on the map of Poland
Are you looking for an authentic Polish experience away from the crowds? Well then, no need to search anymore – Tarnów is the perfect place for you. Our city, which is located in southern Poland, boasts gorgeous architecture, rich history, as well as a welcoming and warm atmosphere – quite literally because Tarnów is known for being the warmest place in Poland.
Tarnów is often called “the Pearl of Renaissance”, mainly due to its beautifully preserved Old Town. As you stroll through picturesque streets, you will be captivated by the colourful tenements, the charming Town Hall, and the stunning Cathedral which is considered the most impressive monument in Tarnów. Our city’s deep cultural roots, from its medieval origins to its significant Jewish heritage (the Jewish cemetery, the Bimah, Żydowska, Wekslarska, and Goldhammera Streets), will surely be appreciated by history lovers and satisfy every tourist’s hunger for knowledge.
For museum enthusiasts, we recommend the Regional Museum, which offers fascinating insights into the city’s history, including exhibits on Tarnów’s role in the Polish fight for independence. However, if you’d like to experience some outdoor adventures, Ciężkowice-Rożnów Landscape Park will provide you with breathtaking scenery, perfect for hiking or just peaceful nature walks.
Another worth-seeing attraction in Tarnów is our newly created Mascaron Trail which consists of 17 figurines scattered around the city centre. Discovering and learning about their meanings serves as great recreation for both kids and adults. Speaking of children, if the weather is nice, they surely will have a lot of fun while visiting Strzelecki Park, where not only the Mausoleum of general Józef Bem, but also a huge playground is located.
After a long day of sightseeing, tourists can enjoy delicious food at numerous restaurants and cafés, where traditional Polish cuisine meets modern and international cooking creativity. If you’d like to stock up on souvenirs, our local tea, Tarninówka, or just ask about something, visit our Tourist Information Centre – we’ll be happy to help 🙂
See you in Tarnów!
